What defines luxury? Size, yes, but also location, surroundings, design and decor that can stimulate the senses and elevate your mood. Encased within a boutique subdivision in Hamilton’s tranquil northern fringe, our featured home brings you the opportunity to experience such a myriad of sensations. Incredibly spacious, beautifully detailed and exuding a distinct European flair. Entering down the canopy of the magnolia-lined lane you’ll feel a sense of calmness as you discover this peaceful haven. Inspired by a refined aesthetic achieved through years of worldly travels, you’ll feel like you’ve escaped the hustle and bustle as you relax and unwind in the lodge-inspired surroundings. Over 20 years ago, the owners – both frustrated with the limited options on offer, and inspired by regular international travel to exotic and diverse destinations – embarked on their dream build, taking inspiration and design cues from country homes visited in France and Italy. Having the first pick of sections on offer in this exclusive enclave, the choice was obvious and an easy one – the prime northeast facing aspect with wide gully frontage; a perfect 2948 square metre blank canvas in which to develop their vision. They engaged well-known Auckland architect Alister Kitchen to bring to life their 14 -page brief of what they envisioned, and the first rendering of the overall concept delivered by Alister was pretty much the one. The choice of solid masonry construction (Firth Hot Bloc) evolved as part of the brief for the home to be strong, quiet, warm in winter and cool in summer, and also to reflect the soul and feel of those country homes they’d experienced while travelling. European-inspired luxury was the background that took the initial lead for the look of the home, while over the years it has evolved into a mix of traditional approaches from the Western world, paired with stylistic elements borrowed from the nations being discovered. Over the ensuing years, the combination of further international travel and new experiences inspired a comprehensive and extensive refurbishment throughout the home. The result is a modernised and slightly more formal yet homely twist comprising a melting pot of cultures and a rich blend of traditions, adapted from global adventures. It’s a striking décor, one that resonates with those who have an eclectic nature and an adventurous heart. Covering a vast 381 square metres of floor space, the layout offers three living areas (one set up as a home theatre room), two dining areas, three bedrooms (including a huge master suite), an office/library and a fabulous separate laundry with built-in appliances. Developed over many years, the extensively landscaped verdant established gardens have been inspired along the principles used by well-known international garden designer Paul Bangay. Hedged and walled gardens create outdoor rooms in which to view the bushy gully aspect beyond the expansive lawns. The timeless design, with a myriad of thoughtful details, creates a feeling of genuine warmth and generous welcome. The considered architectural design provides an easy connection between the indoors and out. It’s a journey within the destination, a real sense of space. With travel options abroad in the immediate future curtailed, why not reward yourself every day with the feel of a luxury lodge that’s been created right here in the Waikato by those with an eye for detail, and a well-travelled designer passport. The luxury staycation you deserve awaits.
