39 The Braigh, Waipu, Whangarei, Northland, 0582, New Zealand

The historic Scottish town of Waipu has a charm of its own and here to enhance that is this amazing home. Built-in 1880 as a church it has undergone a transformation merging the character of kauri timber floors and original stained glass windows with the function and flair of a modern home. The circular driveway entrance and landscaped gardens complement the building beyond. Take a minute to listen to the birds.

Through large blue church doors, you are introduced to a home like no other -lift your eyes to the high ceilings and follow the light coming through the original church stained glass windows.

The ground level is truly amazing with a music/library room adjacent to the front entrance. The separate lounge is large, formerly the original congregation area and has retained the beautiful church windows. The kitchen has a large double oven with gas hob and opens out to the generous dining area. Bi-fold doors lead out to an undercover outdoor area.

Recycled kauri timber has been used to form the stairs which lead to two larger bedrooms, one being the main bedroom with ensuite, and then two smaller ones. There are bathrooms upstairs and downstairs.

A pull-down ladder gives access to the attic – a space large enough for a bedroom, office or storage. A large garage was added in 2003 with internal access: built in keeping with the original building.

This home has been completed by owners who have shown a passion for the era of the original church, including the fittings and furniture.
